CLAN STORIES
HOW THE CLANS CAME TO BE Once upon a time, there were four cats who lived together. Their names were Blossom, Dew, Echo and Frost. They had lived together as long as any of them could remember, and had been travelling for many a long moon. One day they came upon a wondrous land, with plenty of space and as mush prey as they could want. So they set up home here, and it wasn't long before more cats came along, wanting to join them in their ways. Everything was going fine until Frost and Echo decided that it was time to choose a leader and a fight broke out between them, for they both wanted to be the leader. So the group split up, Echo and Frost each going their separate ways with Dew and Blossom stuck in between, who also decided to split up only to that they were stronger that way and promised to help each other.
Each Clan as they were now called grew bigger and bigger, each developing their own personalities and ideas about their way of life. Echo and Frost stayed distant from the others, rarely seen by any passers by. They grew distant, and started to forget the friendship that they had once shared. One night, each of the four leaders had the same dream, a shimmering cat telling them to meet at the bend in the river the next night. So they all went, and saw two things that had not been there before. One of them was a large boulder in the middle of the stream and the other was the shimmering cat on top of the boulder. This cat told them that they must not forget the ties between them and the friendship that they used to have. Each Clan should be independent but should treat each other with respect and kindness, for StarClan and the spirits of those who have passed were always watching.
SAKURASTAR'S TREE Long ago, there was a highly respected leader of BlossomClan called Sakurastar. All of the other leaders knew and respected her, for ever since she had been a young warrior everyone had known that she would be their next leader. Soon after she became leader, Sakurastar fell in love with a handsome young rogue who's name has been forgotten. He was an evil cat, but his charm was the only thing that she could see as she fell more and more in love with him. Every night she would sneak out to meet him, and before long she was pregnant with his kits. The night that they were due to be born, she crept out of camp so that she could be with her mate. It was a cold Leaf-Bare night, and she was almost freezing by the time she reached him. Before long, she had given birth to three little kittens and was happier than can, but very tired. There she fell asleep, curled up with her mate and kits.
When she woke up in the morning, she found that she was alone. Frantically, she began to search for her family but could not find them anywhere. She knew deep down that her mate had taken them away, and didn't believe it until she found their bodies on top of a snowy hill, icy cold. Heartbroken, she lay there and cried her eyes out, trying to wash away the pain. There she stayed for the rest of the day until she could stay awake no longer and fell asleep beside them, but she never woke up. As soon as her eyes closed, she saw her kits there waiting for her, and as she left for StarClan dropped a single seed where her body lay. Then the next day, when the warriors of her Clan came to look for her, all they found was a single blooming sapling atop a grassy hill. Now that the tree is fully grown, when BlossomClan cats come to sit by the hill, they say that they can see her spirit, playing with her kits in among the sakura blossoms.
POISONED KIT One calm night, a normal EchoClan queen gave birth to a litter of four kittens. Three were normal dark pelted kits but one was pure white. This surprised the Clan, since there were no other white cats in the Clan but they didn't do anything about it. But that night, the Leader and Medicine Cat of the Clan got a strange dream in which a StarClan cat told them that the white kit would never survive in their Clan, and they must give it away. But they decided to ignore this warning, knowing that it wasn't right to abandon a kit so small and helpless for it would surely die on its own.
As the kit grew older though they noticed that there was something wrong with it, for it could not talk nor hear nor see anything from what they could tell. It just sat there all day, unmoving, as if it was frozen. It never ate and never saw any sunlight, making it thin and ragged. This scared the Clan, and they all knew that it was StarClan's punishment for disobeying them, and they feared that whatever this cat suffered from would spread it's disease to the rest of the Clan, so they abandoned it on the edge of the territory and never saw it again. This is why EchoClan mothers still to this day abandon any white kits that they get, in fear of this mysterious disease occurring again.
SKY'S WAVE Before DewClan learned to swim, there was a mighty warrior who was bigger and stronger than the other DewClan cats, the bravest warrior in all the Clans. He knew that he could do anything he wanted to, and one day decided that he wanted to block off all the streams from his territory, so that they could have more land for no-one used the streams to hunt. With his own two paws, he pushed large boulders into the streams so that they blocked the flow of water, creating much more space for his Clan. Everyone thought he was a hero, and the Clan leader hailed him for being so strong and smart.
But StarClan was not happy with what he had done, for they knew they streams were important. So they sent the rains. For days and days on end it rained and rained, turning everyone's territories into soggy marsh. Then, when the mighty warrior was on a patrol near the river, he heard a rumble. Looking upstream, he saw a huge wave of water coming down towards them and it was too late to run away for the wave was upon them before they knew it. Everything was washed away, including the boulders which blocked the streams, filling them up again. Whilst he was being carried by the wave, the warrior had a vision from StarClan, where his ancestors told him that the water was his friend, and he must teach the Clan to use it properly. So after this, the tom never thought about blocking the streams, instead he learned to swim and fish, bringing this skill to his Clan.
THE DAY THE EARTH SPLIT As time went on, the Clans grew restless. FrostClan and EchoClan had carried their dislike for each other down through the generations, plus whilst BlossomClan and DewClan were still friends they had drifted apart. Cats started to have different ideas about how the Clans should be ruled, causing trouble within each of the Clans. Fights started to break out amongst cats at the gatherings, and border disputes became more and more frequent. But then everything changed when a warrior was killed.
DewClan and FrostClan had been having an argument about some prey which quickly turned into a fight. A passing BlossomClan warrior tried to break up the fight and ended up being killed, but no-one knows who fault it was. All of the Clans agreed to meet at the gathering spot the next night to talk about what had happened that day, but as soon as they got there it was obvious that there were two sides to this debate, EchoClan and DewClan versus FrostClan and BlossomClan. The leaders all stood upon the rock and argued with each other, the Clans watching in horror. The Sky began to rumble as dark clouds rolled over, but the leaders ignored this. The, all of a sudden there was a huge flash of lightning as the bolt struck the rock where the leaders were standing, and when the watching cats recovered their vision the EchoClan and FrostClan leaders lay dead on the rock.
EchoClan, who deeply respected StarClan's word instantly retreated back to their territory, but FrostClan wasn't as forgiving. They were angry that their leader had been killed, and attacked the remaining two Clans without another word. The huge fight went on for a long time with no signs of stopping until the clouds above them started to rumble louder than ever. Then the cats noticed that the ground was shaking beneath their paws, and the fighting broke up. All of a sudden, there was a huge lurch and the ground jolted apart suddenly, creating a huge gash in the earth between FrostClan and the other Clans. Terrified, the cats all retreated to their camps, having lost many to the split in the earth and the battle itself.
For moons, FrostClan were isolated on the other side of the Gorge, as it was later called, with no way of reaching the other Clans. Finally, some twolegs came and built a bridge, connecting the two sides. BlossomClan and DewClan were worried that FrostClan was going to invade at first, but nothing happened. Generations passed and the Clans seemed to be at peace, maybe there were never going to be anymore fights now that StarClan had spoken. Or maybe they were just biding their time... waiting for the right moment to strike.
